A 39-year-old man allegedly impaired by drugs led authorities on a high-speed chase across the Tappan Zee Bridge, injuring two New York State troopers. One trooper was hurt in the head-on collision that resulted from the chase, while the other was injured in the scuffle that ensued while taking the driver into custody.

The New York City man is being held in the Town of Clarkstown without bail after being arraigned on felony charges that include second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief.

The state troopers from the Tarrytown barracks that he allegedly hurt suffered minor injuries, such as bruises and sprains.

The high-speed chase began in Greenburgh on I-87 northbound at approximately 12:20 p.m. and ended in Upper Nyack on North Broadway. The driver's speed was clocked at 97 mph prior to the pursuit.

In addition to the felonies, he also was charged with multiple misdemeanor counts.

After crashing head-on into a police cruiser on North Broadway, the driver fled the scene and was tackled by police. He resisted arrest by punching the officers and attempted to grab a gun and stun gun from police. Clarkstown police assisted the troopers with subduing the man.

A police search of the man's car resulted in the seizure of Clonazepam tablets, 2 grams of coke and 9 grams of heroin.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are stopped by police, it is never a good idea to flee. Almost certainly you will make the situation worse for yourself. Your best option is to pull over, roll your window down a few inches, and when requested by police, provide them with your driver's license, registration and proof of insurance.

You are under no obligation to provide further information or consent to a search, although if officers allege probable cause exists, a search may ensue without your permission. Request to speak with your attorney and invoke your right to remain silent.
