Regardless of the allegations, criminal charges should never be taken lightly. Any criminal conviction, regardless of whether the individual is facing felony or misdemeanor charges or a combination of the two, can haunt an individual with long-term consequences. A conviction can impact future employment and other aspects of daily life.

An international raid in 19 countries has resulted in more than 90 arrests related to hacking by using a remote access tool (RAT) to spread viruses, obtain sensitive information and hack social media accounts all around the globe.

Among those arrested was a 26-year-old New York man. He faces criminal charges of computer hacking and will appear before a judge in Manhattan Federal Court.

Authorities say that the tool allowed those charged to allegedly steal confidential information from other people’s computers. The two apparent creators of the RAT, which is known as Blackshades, were arrested in 2012.

One of the creators has entered a guilty plea and is awaiting sentencing for the charges while the other alleged creator’s charges are still pending. A criminal trial can be a long and drawn out process, so a plea negotiation may be offered. Penalties are dependent upon the charges, and could involve jail time as well as fines.

When an individual is accused of a crime, a criminal defense attorney may be able to help them with their case. A criminal conviction can last a lifetime, and should be given the proper attention. If you are facing criminal accusations, it is a good idea to seek legal counsel for advice and to establish a defense.
